Thesis = Done!

Today marked the final submission date for our thesis. Thankfully I completed it on time and had it printed on special glossy laminated paper to simulate a photo book. And I must say, it came out fantastic. I'm so proud of myself for what I've achieved.

Now I hope portfolio will go as smoothly.

Treatise document

We are currently in the last week before our treatise document is due. Pressure is high and stress levels are increasing.

Slowly but surely, we will all get there together.

I have to say, I'm starting to enjoy adobe InDesign now that I've got the hang of it.

After a few days of striking and protesting #feesmustfall, president Zuma announced that there would be 0% increase in fees for 2016. Success!!

And now we can finally resume work.

3Ds and layout crits

With lots of days and nights sacrificed in the studios and labs, I managed to catch up on design and produce the work required for the current submission as well as for the previous ones that I had missed. It feels really good to be back on track

Power outage= bed time

While a few of us were in the studio working, suddenly the power just got cut off. Everyone got so angry since there wasn't any load shedding scheduled for tonight. I'm still unsure about the extent of my work loss *fingers crossed*

But a few of us decided to take it as a sign to go home and catch up on sleep. And that's exactly what I'm going to do.

Good night world

The collective: art and design exhibition

Tonight was the opening night for the collective exhibition. Our class had our products being exhibited there and it was such a great turn out!

The highlight of the event for me was seeing people admire my light. I even noticed a baby staring at it in awe from it's mums shoulder. So touching.

The collective exhibition

Aperture chandelier is up and ready for the exhibition that starts tonight. #amped

3D modeling

Now that detail design is completed, I have started modeling up the components for DPM and design.

Slow and steady: 42 days and counting...

Class selfie

Our class got together for a class photo but immediately afterwards, I shouted selfie and everyone huddled up together and this was the result. These guys are awesome!

Pushing all nighters: crunch time

Recently, these past few days and nights have become quite stressful due to the immense workload and because I'm slightly behind with design and theory.

Detail design is taking longer than expected but I'm perfecting my drawings and sketches to adequately prepare me for portfolio so that I won't have to come back and redo them again.

Due to my chandelier taking so much time to get fabricated and the sourcing of the lighting components to be installed, I was really pushed back for time and missed deadlines.

Thankfully, my lecturer is quite understanding and allowed me some leeway to catch up. Which is exactly what I've been doing for the last week.

I've been spending days and nights at campus working hard on my detail design and tonight I have finally completed my drawings. I am quite happy about that.

Next step: thesis document!

Twee rivière night away on paradise

The B-Tech interior design class was invited to a night away at the South African heritage and conservation institution in twee reviere, 200km from PE.

We were spoiled and had gotten everything we desired along with comfy accommodation, cuppacinos, freshly organic grown fruit and vegetables and home made luxuries.

Aperture chandelier is alive!!!

My product is finally up and running. I must say, I am extremely proud of it

Working on the aperture chandelier

Finally, the leds and Perspex pieces are connected and now just the final touches remain. I'm ecstatic at how it finally turned out!
